Tapestry
Morocco has a long tradition of weaving some of the most beautiful carpets in the world! For over a thousand years, women from mountain tribes have used the wool from the sheep they raise in the Atlas Mountains to hand weave these magnificent carpets. Today, these tribes still
live in the mountains and pass on their knowledge from generation to generation, from mother to daughter.
Each carpet is unique and tells a story. The weavers integrate important experiences from their lives into the carpet and use abstract and enigmatic symbols and geometries inspired by their experiences, such as symbols of love, nature, and happiness. Weaving carpets is a vital activity for these pastoral tradition families and their main source of income.
At Johart, we want to support these women by providing them with a decent income and recognizing the remarkable work they do to create these unique works of art.
Like any handmade rug, the dimensions may slightly vary, adding to the charm and authenticity of this unique piece.
